Ryan Karlstad, MD has been a practicing orthopedic surgeon since 2003. He attended Harvard University and graduated from The Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 1997. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, he received fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, California.
Dr. Karlstad is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery from which he has earned Subspecialty Certificates in Surgery of the Hand (formerly CAQ Hand) and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. He is only one of a few dozen orthopedic surgeons in the country to hold both of these subspecialty certificates. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. Dr. Karlstad has a special interest in disorders of the hand and upper extremity and frequently lectures at meetings pertaining to these topics.
